Evansville Newspaper Goes Gannett
Gannett has been given government approval to build its daily newspaper monopoly. The latest acquisition of Journal Media Group means the Langley-controlled newspaper chain will now own and operate the Evansville Courier & Press. The newspaper chain only has to get control of major dailies in northern part of the state to completely monopolize the major daily newspaper business in Indiana. In addition to the Indianapolis Star, Gannett also owns dailies in Lafayette, Muncie, Richmond and the Louisville Courier-Journal, which provides daily newspaper coverage for a good part of south-central and south-eastern Indiana. The acquisition also gives Gannett control of major daily newspapers in Milwaukee, Memphis, Knoxville, Central Florida, Naples, Florida, as well as several dailies in California and Texas, South Carolina and Washington.
